Movie Review : KAMINEY

Standard

Cast: Shahid Kapur, Priyanka Chopra, Amole Gupte

Director: Vishal Bhardwaj

Untitled-6

A wild, crazy, fast paced, dark movie coming right out of volcanoes mouth to the Indian audience. Dhan te naan! This is Kaminey for you coming as another full on entertainment bulldozer from the critically acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj. Starring Shahid Kapur in double role as Guddu( for his adorable stammering ) and Charlie (with the Fo-fweet speech defect),  the film has been spiced up by the lovable, simple marathi mugli Sweety played by Priyanka Chopra who has gone for a complete image makeover from the oh -so glam model of Fashion to a salwaar kameez clad girl. Charlie and Guddu are completely two opposite personalities, opposite to the extent that their goals in life and the means to achieve them are distant apart like sky and land. While Charlie prefers to go the wrong way i.e. an eye for an eye he dreams of becoming a bookie, on the other hand Guddu is a simple, down to earth guy who dreams like any other common man of settling down and seeing his grandchildren grow in front of him. The background is marked by hazy, dark angles with striking one liners and laced with dark humor making it a typical paisa vasool movie. While Guddu works for an NGO, falls in love with Sweety ,ends up marrying her before he wanted and lands up in big soup with the marathi mogul Bhope (Amole Gupte) who turns out to be Sweety’s brother. On the other hand with his dream of making it big in life through a f-hort cut Charlie lands up in trouble with cops and smugglers after he steals their guitar containing coke worth ten lakh. Life takes a fast paced u-turn when Guddu and Charlie come face to face to save the dreams and life of each other. While Charlie despite of all the past bitterness tries to help out Guddu to save his love story from dying an untimely death, Guddu tries to help Charlie to redeem his old ways and get back to a respectable, honest life far away from the din and dash of the mafia world. The film ends on a wild note where all the charcaters including Bhope , Guddu , Sweety, Charlie, the drug mafia come face to face and with police firing maniacally there is blood, violence ,smoke and dead bodies all around.  The most interesting part is that the film is extremely fast paced to the extent that one cannot spare a second to draw attention to the nachos and pop corn meal box. Vishal Bhardwaj leaves it to the audience to use their intelligence in recalling all the past scenes and link them up together to solve the entire filmy puzzle. With outstanding acting skills exhibited by the main cast , it shows the versatility of Piggy Chops and Shahid Kapur.

So if you are all geared up for an action packed thriller which goes on like a roller coaster ride, this is the film to watch out for.

My rating :   3
